While we strive for our natural kids’ shampoo bar to be ‘Tear-Free,’ it’s important to note that any product with a different pH than the eye can cause tearing. Even water can irritate the eyes.

We avoid harsh surfactants like Sodium Laureth Sulfate, ensuring our products are gentler on the eyes than conventional shampoos. We do not use numbing agents.

Using our no-plastic shampoo bar is simple! Start by wetting both the hair and the bar. Work up a lather in your hands, then set the bar down. Massage the lather into the hair, focusing on the scalp, and rinse thoroughly.

You can rub the bar directly onto the hair, but kids often overdo it, using more shampoo than necessary and potentially tangling their hair. If you choose to apply the bar directly, a few swipes across the head are sufficient. Then, massage the lather in and rinse thoroughly.

When it comes to kids’ shampoo bar ingredients, we prioritize safety and health. Here are some harmful chemicals we avoid and why:

  • Synthetic Fragrances: These are often exempt from labeling requirements and are considered “trade secrets.” Without transparency, it’s impossible to know their components, which may include phthalates linked to asthma aggravation, headaches, allergic reactions, and potential long-term central nervous system disorders.
  • Parabens: Commonly found in many cosmetics as preservatives, parabens are suspected to have links to breast cancer. It’s crucial to avoid deodorants containing parabens, as they are applied close to the breast area daily over many years.
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)/Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES): There are nearly 16,000 studies in the PubMed science library discussing the toxicity of these chemicals, which are prevalent in many shampoos, scalp treatments, hair color products, and more. Although derived from coconuts, SLS/SLES is anything but natural.
  • 1,4-Dioxane: This known carcinogen often contaminates SLS/SLES during manufacturing. It’s essential to distinguish it from Dioxin, which is a different compound.

Is your kids shampoo bar tear-free?

We would like to say our natural kids shampoo bar is ‘Tear-Free’ but that is a hard promise for any soap company to make! Anything that has a different pH from the eye and gets into the eye will cause the eye to tear up. We do not use harsh surfactants (NO SLS or SES) in our products so it will not irritate the eyes like most other shampoos.

What size is the bar? I want to make sure it is easy for my young one to hold on her own.

The round bar is 2.25″ round and .75″ thick and weighs 2 ounces.

Is the kids shampoo bar gluten-free?

Yes, it is. Tangie shampoo and conditioner bars are gluten-free.

My child has long hair and easily tangles, will this help reduce tangles?

Most likely yes! Because the sodium cocoa sulfate is a mild surfactant, it does not strip all the natural oils from the hair. This helps reduce the strands from tangling.

I’ve tried a shampoo bar on my kids hair in the past, it left it feeling waxy. What makes this bar different?

No. It sounds like the shampoo bar you used in the past may have been a sulfate free ‘soap’ bar, often marketed as a shampoo bar. That feeling can happen when a sulfate free soap bar is used as a shampoo. For long wavy, curly, or kinky hair a sulfate free soap bar can work well, but most kids benefit from a mild sulfate shampoo to clean their hair properly. The lack of sulfate can leave the hair feeling heavy/waxy/oily because it is essentially not stripping out any oils, it is only removing the dirt and odor.
